FCC authorisation
The mandatory US compliance requirement for radio-frequency emissions from electronic and electrical products. Depending on the category, the route is either Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) or Certification, the latter granted by a TCB with an FCC ID.
- Issued by
- SDoC is self-declared by the responsible party; Certification is granted by a TCB
- Assessment route
- Self-declaration
- How it is obtained
- Complete FCC Part 15 (or the applicable part) testing at a recognised laboratory. The Certification route requires an application with internal and external photos, block diagrams and the manual, and results in an FCC ID. The responsible party must be US-based.
- Marking rules
- SDoC products carry the compliance statement in the manual or on the product; Certification products must display the FCC ID. The FCC ID must not be used before authorisation is granted.
- Validity and upkeep
- Authorisations do not expire, but RF-relevant hardware or firmware changes require a permissive change or a new authorisation.
