GB 34660-2026: China’s vehicle EMC standard gets 6 GHz immunity and ADAS failure criteria

The mandatory road-vehicle EMC standard is replaced from 1 July 2027. Immunity now reaches 6 GHz, driver-assistance faults count as failures, and charging EMC moves to a separate standard.

  • 01GB 34660-2026 was published on 27 February 2026 and takes effect on 1 July 2027, replacing GB 34660-2017.
  • 02It is a mandatory national standard, used in vehicle type approval.
  • 03Per the draft, radiated immunity for components extends from 20 MHz–2 GHz to 20 MHz–6 GHz.
  • 04New failure criteria include abnormal driver-assistance or automated-driving behaviour and ABS that cannot activate.
  • 05EV charging EMC is not in this standard; the draft says it will be revised separately.

What changes

Dates and status come from the official standards system. The technical points below come from the draft that MIIT published for comment, which states that its main content is broadly in line with UN Regulation No. 10 (series 07). The final text may differ in detail.

Area2017 edition2026 edition (per draft)
Component radiated immunity20 MHz – 2 GHz20 MHz – 6 GHz
Vehicle radiated immunityup to 2 GHz2–6 GHz added at a lower field strength
Failure criteriaGeneral functionAdds driver assistance, automated driving, ABS activation

Transition, per the draft

  • Radiated emissions: new type approvals from the 13th month after the standard takes effect.
  • Most immunity requirements: new types from the 13th month, existing types from the 25th month.
  • Immunity of safety and assistance functions (such as emergency braking, stability control and automated driving): from the dates of the corresponding standards.

Published interpretations summarise this as one year for new types and two years for existing types. Check the final Clause 8 before planning.

Charging is handled elsewhere

The draft states that EMC requirements for EV charging are not included and that the mandatory conductive-charging EMC standard will be revised separately. Off-board charging equipment follows GB/T 18487.2, whose 2026 edition takes effect on 1 November 2026.

What it means for suppliers

  • Test to 6 GHz. Wi-Fi, 5G and V2X bands now fall inside the immunity range for components.
  • Define failure for ADAS. Driver-assistance and braking functions need clear monitoring during immunity tests.
  • Plan for the type rules. Changes to body material, ECU placement or bus layout may trigger new tests.

Our partner laboratory network runs EMC tests in a 10 m chamber and supports 800 V high-voltage component testing.

FAQ

When does GB 34660-2026 apply?

It takes effect on 1 July 2027. Per the draft, new requirements phase in for new and existing vehicle types after that date.

Does it cover EV charging EMC?

No. The draft excludes charging EMC and says the conductive-charging EMC standard will be revised separately.

How does it relate to UN R10?

MIIT’s draft says its main technical content is broadly consistent with UN R10.07.
